The Civil Division maintains records on general civil, landlord/tenant and small claims cases. It is also responsible for the scheduling, processing and noticing of these cases.

There are three divisions of the 43rd District Court – Ferndale, Hazel Park, and Madison Heights. Because there are three divisions, all judges for civil cases are picked by a blind draw. If a case is filed in Ferndale, it does not necessarily mean the case will be heard in Ferndale. Due to the blind draw it could be heard in Ferndale, Hazel Park, or Madison Heights.
